There is a huge market for low-cost and budget-friendly gassers. Huntington is one of those companies. Although they’re a lesser-known brand, they still manage to build their grills a little better than their competition.

That’s because of their years of experience and the dedication they put into their products. So today, we’re going through a couple of Huntington gas grill reviews and see if they’re actually worth it.

The Lineup

Huntington Grill has three major product lines — the Rebel, the Patriot, and the Cast series. But at the time of this writing, there are only two series listed on their official website. Those are the Patriot and the Cast series.

After further research, we’ve found out that most of the grills in these two series are discontinued while only two are available for purchase. The two gas grills are the Cast 24025HNT and Cast 30040HNT.

For the purpose of this article, we’re going to review just these two gassers. If we know anything new, we’ll update this page accordingly. And with that, let’s dive into the Huntington Cast BBQ reviews.

Huntington Gas Grill Reviews

Huntington Cast Series 24025HNT Gas Barbecue

What We Like

The thing that makes this grill a better choice than its competition is the material. Especially in this low price range, you often find grills that are made from thin powder-coated steel. That’s not the case with the Huntington 24025HNT. It’s actually made from cast aluminum.

In fact, they used to make gas grills with cast aluminum back then, in the early 1960s. Nowadays, stainless or painted steel is usually the norm. This grill is definitely a #throwbackthursday for those earlier models.

That being said, cast aluminum is rust-resistant. It retains heat well and distributes it evenly inside the cookbox. It also makes the grill lightweight, at around 38.5lbs in total.

The 24025HNT features a stainless steel dual-controlled burner. It’s a large H-shaped burner with two separate controlling knobs. This essentially works like a two-burner gas grill. You can turn on both for high heat grilling. Or only one if you want to cook on a two zone fire setup.

Furthermore, the burner is capable of producing 25000 BTUs across 240 square inches of primary cooking space. So, that will be about 104 of heat flux. That’s pretty decent for a budget gasser. It’s almost the same measure as other high-end ones.

Note: Heat flux is calculated by dividing the total BTU by the main cooking area. It tells you how hot the grill can get and is generally a better heat output indicator than BTU alone.

Speaking of grilling space, the grill has porcelain-coated wire cooking grates. While the porcelain coating makes it easy to clean the grates, the thin wire isn’t great at conducting heat. Because of that, the grates won’t be able to produce those sear marks you’re looking for, even though the burner can generate a lot of heat.

However, there is plenty of headspace inside the cookbox. You can actually fit a medium-sized chicken vertically in there. There is also an extra warming rack of 150 square inches. Just in case you need somewhere to keep your cooked food nice and toasty.

On the outside, the grill features two plastic side shelves with integrated tool hooks. These come in handy when you need space to put your BBQ accessories. Keep in mind that the two shelves aren’t collapsible, making it hard to store the grill in some tight corners of your backyard.

Now, to keep cost even lower, Huntington doesn’t include any grease management system at all. The only thing the grill has is a hanger right below the burner. You can hang an empty can there to catch all the drippings.

The customer support from Huntington is fairly good. They’re quick and helpful. There is also a YouTube video available to help you assemble the grill from start to finish.

Last but not least, let’s talk about the warranty since this is definitely one of the criteria you have to look for when buying a new gasser. Surprisingly, the Huntington 24025HNT has a much better warranty than other gas grills in its price range. The company will cover the aluminum parts for 10 years, the stainless steel burner for 5 years, and the rest for 2 years. Many low-cost gas grills only have a 1-year warranty.

What Could Be Improved

We’d ask for better cooking grates. People grill for those beautiful sear marks. If we could get porcelain-coated cast iron grates, that would be ideal.

Another thing is a large grease tray. An empty can might not be big enough to catch all the drippings, especially if you’re cooking a lot.

Overall Impression

There is nothing fancy about this gasser. But hey, it’s sturdier and more durable than the competition. It’s basic, simple, and very affordable. For a budget gas grill, we think it provides the best value for the money.

Better yet, this one is actually made in the USA. Many people choose this grill over the competition because of that.

Huntington Cast Series 30040HNT Propane Grill

What We Like

The Huntington 30040HNT features pretty much the same specs as the 24025HNT. Everything from the cast aluminum construction, stainless steel dual control burner, porcelain-coated cooking grates to hanger for empty grease can, plastic side shelves, and warranty.

However, there are a few differences between the two models.

The 30040HNT is a bit heavier, weighing at around 55lbs. It also has a side burner on the left shelf. This small burner can generate about 10000 BTUs, which is enough for heating up your soups, sauces, and whatnot.

Note: There is another similar version, 30030HNT, that doesn’t have the extra side burner. It’s less expensive, of course.

On the 30040HNT, the main burner is actually capable of producing more BTUs than the 24025HNT (30000 vs 25000). However, its heat flux is a bit less (90 vs 104) even though the grill has a larger cooking space (300 vs 240).

Compared to the 24025HNT, the 30040HNT essentially has less heat output but more space to cook on. Keep in mind that this grill also has an additional warming rack of 130 square inches.

Furthermore, the 30040HNT features a front panel to protect the gas tank underneath the cookbox. This is something that the 24025HNT lacks.

Other than that, everything else is the same as the 24025HNT.

Specifications

Materialcast aluminum
Dimensions54″ L x 22″ W x 43.5″ H
Colorblack
Weight55 lbs
Main Burner(s)dual control, H shape
BTU Rating30000
Heat Flux90
Side Burner?yes, with 10000 BTUs
Ignition Typeelectric piezo
Main Grilling Space300 sq in
Secondary Grilling Space130 sq in
Side Shelves2
Warranty10-year on aluminum, 5-year on burner, 2-year on the rest

What Could Be Improved

Because this grill is really similar to the 24025HNT, we’d like to see the same improvements. Well, maybe an extra grill cover since it’s more expensive than the 24025HNT.

Overall Impression

The 30040HNT is another decent no-frills propane BBQ from Huntington. Because of the larger cooking space, it’s a great gasser for a family of four. If you’re curious, it’s also made in the USA.

Who Makes Huntington Gas Grills?

Back in the 1980s, Huntington made their grills in Huntington, Indiana. Fast forward to 2009, a Canadian manufacturing company, Onward, bought and merged Huntington with the rest of their product lines.

If you’re familiar with Broil King BBQ, Onward is its parent company. Onward also owns Fiesta, Sterling, Grill Pro BBQ Accessories, and Broil-Mate. Many Broil-Mate models are actually the same Huntington models, but with a different brand name.

Onward was founded in Canada in 1906 by Theodore Adam Witzel. It’s now run by his three grandsons.

Are Huntington Grills Made In The USA?

Before 2009, Huntington grills were made in the States. However, after 2009, some of the grills were made in Canada as well. That’s because Onward has manufacturing factories in Indiana, Tennessee, and Ontario. As a result, you’ll see the “Made In North America” label.

Keep in mind that Onward still uses local and high quality parts to make their grills. In fact, many high-end features of their Broil King grills have been used in some of the Huntington models. Meanwhile, the price of those models still remains low. So basically, you get a somewhat quality grill at a fraction of the price.

How To Choose The Right Huntington Grill For You

Build Quality

Unlike their competitors, the two Huntington gas grills featured in this article are both made from cast aluminum. This material is much better than just thin steel.

It retains and distributes heat well. It’s easy to clean and really lightweight. Better yet, it won’t rust away quickly either.

So in this regard, you will be fine with either grill.

Numbers Of Burners

Both Huntington 24025HNT and 30040HNT feature a dual control burner. Even though it’s one solid unit, you can still control each side of it via a separate controller. This allows you the flexibility to cook with indirect heat or crank it up all the way for high heat grilling when you want to.

Keep in mind that the 30040HNT also has an extra side burner, which is nice to have when preparing small dishes. This is actually a great feature to consider if you want to cook everything in one unit. It saves you the trips back and forth between the kitchen and the backyard.

Now, these two grills use a piezo electric ignition to light the burner. This system relies on a single spark mechanism. It isn’t the greatest system so you might have to be patient with it. Otherwise, you can always light the burner manually with a match or lighter.

Heat Output

The 30040HNT’s burner is more powerful than the 24025HNT’s, but not by much. However, its heat flux is lower than the 24025HNT although it has a larger cooking space. As I mentioned earlier, you can cook more food on the 30040HNT, but it’ll take a bit longer compared to the 24025HNT.

Cooking Space

In terms of cooking space, the 30040HNT has a primary cooking area of 300 square inches and a warming rack of 130 square inches. This is enough to cook for an average household of four people.

On the other hand, the 24025HNT has a bigger warming rack of 150 square inches, yet a smaller main cooking space of 240 square inches. With that much space, it can easily feed a couple with no problem. If you need to cook for more than that, you might have to do it in batches or purchase the 30040HNT instead.

Size/Footprint

These two grills are about the same size. The one drawback that they both have is the unfoldable side shelves. This makes it hard to store the grills if you have a limited space at your house. Just something to keep in mind there.

Mobility

Fortunately, both grills feature a set of wheels. So, you can move them around if you need to.

The Alternatives

Char-griller

Char Griller is a well-known affordable grill brand. They have an extensive distribution across the US in all the big box stores as well as online. Char-griller mainly sells charcoal grills and smokers. One of their popular models is the Akorn kamado grills.

The only gas grill that they offer is the Char-griller E3001. This thing has three powerful burners plus another side burner for all of your cooking needs. Compared to the Huntington Cast BBQs, there is plenty of cooking space on the E3001 (630 square inches). It also features porcelain-coated cast iron grates, which is definitely a big step up from the Huntington gassers.

The only downside is that the grill body is made from powder-coated steel. It might rust away quickly and is generally not as sturdy as cast aluminum.

But overall, we love the performance of the E3001. It actually made it to our top 5 best gas grills under $200.

Char-broil

Char Broil is another low-cost grill manufacturer. It’s run by the W.C. Bradley Company of Columbus, GA. The company made and sold its first grill in the States back in 1948. It’s considered one of the largest barbecue makers in the world.

Char-broil sells a lot of gassers. However, the ones that are closely matched, in terms of performance and price, to our Huntington grills are their Classic series. The series consists of the 280 2-burner and 360 3-burner

They are both basic gas grills, with a porcelain-coated steel body and a wire cooking grate. They also use the traditional piezo ignitor similar to the Huntington grills.

That said, if you don’t mind spending just a few dollars more, you should consider the Char-broil Performance 475 4-burner. This grill is larger and more powerful. It’s also made a bit better and will last longer if you care for it properly.

So, Are Huntington Grills Any Good?

Even though Huntington grills are considered cheap, they are surprisingly better than the majority of their competitors. The main reason is because of the cast aluminum material.

Believe or not, most gassers in the past were made with this stuff. However, they’re made with thinner steel these days, especially in the lower price range.

Cast aluminum is more superior at holding and evening out the heat across the cooking grates. It won’t rust away quickly and is more durable. A cast aluminum grill will definitely perform better. It’ll also last longer than a thin steel grill.

If you’re looking for a simple yet sturdy and affordable gas grill, look no further than the Huntington 24025HNT and 30040HNT. We think they might be the best deal for a budget-friendly gasserl you’re going to find.
